The Welland Canal and What it Does!
Here are some recent pictures of boats in The Welland Canal. The Canal is located between Lakes Ontario and Erie, and consists of 8 locks, including the longest lock in the world (Lock #8), and a set of 3 locks (#4,5&6)which are connected together to form the stair locks. The canal was built to overcome the elevation difference between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, and most importantly, to bypass the natural wonder of Niagara Falls, and the Niagara Escarpment. The page may take a few minutes to load, but is well worth it...Please be patient! Click on the images below to ENLARGE. Enjoy the pictures!
